The newly completed Gateway Cinema project converted an abandoned department store building into an upscale, modern movie theater. Forte Architects worked with the owner to develop all phases of the project from the overall concept and floor plans to the budget and finish details. Forte also assembled a team of engineers and consultants to ensure that the finished project would have appropriate acoustics and technology. A prominent metal canopy was added to draw movie-goers into the building through the new glass storefront entrance. Portions of the roof were raised 13’-0” to create a spacious and welcoming lobby and to allow for the larger-than-life movie screens. Patrons will be able to choose from movies playing in 12 new theaters. Two are equipped with state-of-the-art 3D screens. A VIP lounge, with high-end finishes, private restrooms, and five flat screen TVs, will serve two VIP theaters, which are equipped with comfortable leather seats. Beer and wine will be available in the lounge. Part of the building is left unfinished for future expansion. Plans include two additional theaters and a private party room.
Throughout the rest of the theater, interior soffits, specialty lighting, custom carpet and paint patterns, glass tile accents, textured wallpapers, and custom cabinetry contribute to the traditional Hollywood theater feel.
