The Hamlin residence’s outdoor entertaining space was designed to seamlessly blend with the French chateau style of the existing residence. Some of the key features that were designed for the best use of this space included an in-ground heated pool with zero-depth entry, an adjacent pool house with prep kitchen, a built-in barbecue area with a copper capped wood-fired pizza oven, and trellis covered areas to provide shade.
The positioning of the site elements were key in developing the best outdoor experience for the owners due to the nearby roadway and the large gusts of wind from the east. The pool house and adjoining barbecue area were located at the extents of the newly paved courtyard area to enhance the intimacy of the site and provide a physical buffer to road noise and the aforementioned wind gusts. The trellis and perimeter colonnades will provide further spatial recognition through appropriately subdividing the once blank acreage that is the owner’s backyard. This truly will be a space for entertaining.
