The modernization of Orchard Middle School involved both exterior and interior improvements along with the addition of 6,885 SF to the original 71,321 sf building. The primary building entrance was reoriented and highlighted with “KalWall” translucent wall panels above the canopy, letting in diffused natural light to the entrance lobby. The office complex was relocated so that it would be more prominent and visible with classrooms relocated for better student flow. The exterior site was reconfigured so that buses and cars are separated from students and other pedestrians.
In the original interior, a stage was converted into a new auxiliary gymnasium. New cabinetry, windows, doors and hardware, flooring and lockers were installed throughout the building along with new HVAC, plumbing fixtures, and electrical service and light fixtures.
