Location: Carmel, IN
The Slapnicka family commissioned Forte Architects to design a new home reflecting a modern approach to the mid-western classic prairie style. Located in Carmel, Indiana, the residence is approximately 10,000 net SF and features countless upscale amenities. The site boundaries would not allow for the longitudinal approach that typical prairie style homes achieve so the team at Forte began shaping the volumetric masses of the home to capture the overall prairie style motif by implementing the low sloped roof with extensive overhangs to express linearity, as well as trim bands, protruding masses, and stone wainscoting to add visual interest and break up the sheer mass of the whole structure.
Each level in the interior features high ceiling planes, intricately coffered where appropriate, as well as tasteful, clean-lined and elegant fixtures. The first floor showcases a custom staircase through multiple-story windows, a professional culinary-grade kitchen, a study room, and a separate private office. The second floor contains four of the private sleeping rooms with walk-in closets and three full bathrooms. From the master bedroom, a second story outdoor seating area is accessed featuring a modern cue flat roof and planters. The basement is equipped with a guest bedroom, full bathroom, a media-lounge space, a second laundry and storage room, a gym, and an outdoor covered walk-out patio and fireplace. The residence truly reflects modern prairie styling on a grand scale.
