The Wenatchee High School addition and alteration expanded the existing commons area and main entrance. To accommodate the growing student population, 11,350 SF were added to the commons. Forte Architects also addressed security concerns by opening up the main entry and providing visual access from the administration offices to the entrance. To create a new entry and administrative office, 2,650 SF were added to the existing structure. The demolition of some existing exterior walls, ramps, stairs, exterior entries, storefront, brick masonry columns and walls, and precast concrete roof sections was required.
The plan also provided a separate bus drop-off lane and reconfigured the existing front parking lot, providing safer access for students. The design process also required the new entry site to be re-graded to the parking lot and new walking paths, A.D.A. ramps, and stairs were integrated to visually enhance the front entrance. New landscaping was installed to accent the shapes of the new entrance and addition. Low maintenance types of plants such as lavender were utilized throughout the landscape.
